I wanted to work on my own indie games and had many ideas, one of them being a fast-paced beat 'em up arcade game inspired by games like Deep.io and Brotato. The concept was exponential player growth and increasingly challenging enemies. I started working on it in April 2023, with plans to release it on Android and Windows. The game will feature 5 maps, each with unique themes, a set of enemies, and a boss at the end. Players can upgrade their characters.
I created the character art myself, while I hired an artist for the background maps. My goal is to complete this project as soon as possible. Progress has been great, but the game is still under development. Artwork is currently the main obstacle to completion, but I'm confident I'll overcome it soon. As I made progress, I also delved into improving the "Game Feel." I implemented a custom body dismemberment system, a 2D blood particle system, dynamic health bars, damage pop-up widgets, and more.
I've designed over 10 enemy variants so far and aim to reach 20 enemies, 5 bosses, and multiple playable characters. Some of the major challenges I've faced were:
1. Advancing the Enemy Pawn.
2. Developing Advanced Enemy AI.
3. Implementing an accurate attack system synchronized with animation.
4. Adapting the Player Character to mobile controls.
